The coastal sandstorm disaster, caused by such complicated natural
factors as sea waves, tides and strong wind, is a global ecological
research topic. In order to get rid of the bad impact of sandstorm upon
national defense installations and combat readiness duty-performance, a
research group composed of both civilian and military scientific
researchers has finally achieved gratifying result in this respect after
about five years' great efforts. On the morning of December 21, the
project entitled "Research on Prevention and Control of Hazards Caused by
Sandstorms Upon National Defense Installations in Coastal Areas" passed
the expert's appraisal in Beijing and the national defense installations
in China's coastal areas are expected to put on green ecological "coats"
very soon.
Experts believed that this research result, which has filled in a gap in
the research of sand prevention and control in China's coastal areas, has
reached the advanced level in this research field in China. Along the 3,000-kilometer-long
sand coastal line in China, sandstorm hazards exist here
and there in varying degrees, thus this research result will surely have a
broad prospect for popularization. It is learned that the sand prevention
and control technologies and materials including sand blocking barrier and
honeycomb-type sand fixing barriers have been successfully used now at
several major projects for sand prevention and control such as the
Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the South Xinjiang Railway and the Dunhuang
Grottoes.

记者张锋、钱晓虎报道：由海浪、潮流、强风等复杂自然因素引起的海岸风沙灾害是全球面临的生态课题。为解决沿海国防设施因风沙侵袭而影响装备使用和战备执勤等问题，由军内外科研人员组成的课题组经过近5年的攻关，终于取得可喜成果。今天上午，"沿海国防设施海岸风沙危害防治研究"项目在京通过专家鉴定，我国沿海国防设施可望披上绿色生态"外衣"。
专家鉴定认为，该成果填补了我国海岸风沙防治研究的空白，研究成果总体居于国内领先水平。由于我国3000余公里沙质海岸线都不同程度存在着风沙危害，因而该项成果有着广阔的推广前景。据了解，该研究成果中的阻沙栅栏、蜂巢式固沙障等防治技术和材料目前已在青藏铁路、南疆铁路和莫高窟等重点工程风沙防治中得到成功应用。
