The PLA Air Force recently signed a cooperative agreement with the
Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering
(CAE), under which 28 academicians from the CAS and CAE have been
appointed counselors for the 3rd hi-tech development and high-caliber
talents cultivation of the air force. This is the third time that the air
force has signed cooperative agreements with the CAS and the CAE since the
year of 2000, symbolizing that a stable mechanism has been established for
the strategic alliance between the air force and the state-level
scientific and technological institutions.
Over the past 6 years, the academicians engaged by the air force as
counselors have been proactive in providing foresighted consulting service
and scientific support to the modernization drive of the air force. Their
service involved many aspects such as strategic development of the air
force, armaments development, scientific research organization, talents
cultivation and setup of disciplines and specialties. In the past three
years, under the guidance of these academicians, the research institutions
of the air force have conducted research on nearly 50 key research
projects. Also with their help, more than 20 major hard nuts hampering the
effective use and maintenance of new weaponry and equipment of the air
force have been cracked. The 65 research results that have won National
and Military Scientific and Technological Progress Awards have boosted the
overall elevation of the scientific research level of the air force.
