With the newly developed simulated strategic
confrontation training system as the platform, the National Defense
University (NDU) successfully held a strategic confrontation exercise on
Nov. 29, the first of its kind in China, and the students plunged into
this multi-dimensional strategic confrontation exercise according to the
roles assigned to them. Through the exercise, their level of strategic
thinking in global context has been effectively boosted.
The exercise took the decision-making and handling of the crises as
the basic subject, and was carried out by way of roll-play and
multilateral confrontations. In this exercise, the students were assigned
to fill different positions in the leading political, diplomatic, military
and economic organs, and the exercise proceeded according to the
sequential stages of strategic decision-making, confrontation evolution,
press release, discussion and sum-up, etc. During the exercise, experts
made comments at each stage to help students to clear up their doubts and
answer their questions on the spot. With excellent practical links and
adequate real-time interactions, students' ability to handle crisis has
been remarkably improved.
According to experts, this successful strategic confrontation
exercise indicates that strategic confrontation training for Chinese
senior and middle-rank cadres has been pushed to a new height, and it also
indicates that a new decision-making space for future study and handling
of national security issues has been opened up.
