Song Zuying, a famous Chinese singer, who is also deputy director of
the Cultural Ensemble under the Political Department of the PLA Navy,
staged a solo concert entitled "What A Beautiful Jasmine" recently at the
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts of the United States.
The solo concert was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the
PRC, the Chinese Embassy in the U.S., CCTV and the John F. Kennedy Center
for the Performing Arts, and its music accompaniment was provided by the
U.S. National Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale of Washington.
Starting off with the song "What a Beautiful Jasmine" and wrapping up
the concert with "Love My China", Song sang altogether 16 pieces of
classic songs at the concert. After taking three curtain calls, she
finally sang "America the Beautiful" in English, an American song familiar
to all American people, without music accompaniment. Listening to her
singing, many American people in the audience were so touched that their
eyes were brimming with tears. At the end of the concert, Song made the
following hearty remarks to the audience: "I hope all of you will come to
my motherland in 2008. My motherland China is very beautiful. I will be
waiting for you with my singing when Beijing hosts the Olympic Gamesin
2008." Finally, two American kids, one holding a Chinese national flag,
another an American national flag, got onto the stage, the concert reached
the thrilling climax. The audience gave a standing ovation to Song Zuying,
which lasted for as long as five minutes.

海政文工团副团长、著名歌唱家宋祖英，近日在美国肯尼迪艺术中心成功举办了"好一朵美丽的茉莉花"独唱音乐会。
这场独唱音乐会由国家文化部、中国驻美国大使馆、中央电视台和美国肯尼迪艺术中心联合主办，美国国家交响乐团和华盛顿合唱团现场伴奏。
在这次音乐会上，宋祖英以《好一朵茉莉花》开场，以《爱我中华》压轴，演唱了16首经典曲目。3次返场谢幕后，宋祖英最后用英语无伴奏清唱起美国人耳熟能详的歌曲《美丽的美国》，许多美国观众感动地流下了热泪。宋祖英在音乐会结束时对观众说的一句话非常感人："2008年我希望你们能到我的祖国来，我的祖国很美，中国很美，2008年奥运会在北京，我将用歌声等待你们。"最后，两名美国儿童分别手举中国国旗和美国国旗跑上舞台，音乐会达到了高潮，观众起立鼓掌达5分钟之久。（海雯）
