The Fuzhou General Hospital of the PLA Nanjing Military Area Command went public yesterday that the hospital has achieved remarkable success in treating diabetes by using the new method of islet cell implantation. It has cured seven critical diabetes sufferers successively.

It's said that the new method is a major scientific research subject for the army and Fujian Province in the 10th Five-Year Plan period. Thanks to the six-year-long arduous efforts of a subject team headed by professor Tan Jianmin, deputy president of the Fuzhou General Hospital and director of the Urology Department of the hospital and Organ Transplantation Center of the PLA, the subject has been brought to a success, which symbolizes that China has achieved major technical breakthrough in diabetes treatment and has vaulted into the ranks of the advanced countries in the world.
