The Fragrant Hill Forum---the 2006 International Forum on
Peaceful Development and Security in the Asia-Pacific Region, sponsored by
China Association for Military Science, was held in Beijing from October
23 to 24. Experts from 21 academic institutions in 14 countries such as
the United States, Russia, France, the UK, Japan, India and Pakistan, some
foreign military attachés to China, and experts and scholars from
prestigious Chinese academic institutions attended the forum.
The forum carried out exchanges and discussions in combination with
the current international and regional security situations on a number of
issues, such as "China's peaceful development and the building of a
harmonious region", "Path to harmony and security for Asia-Pacific
region", "Military modernization and military confidence building" and
"Defense think tanks' role in promoting regional development and
security".
The forum submitted 40-odd academic dissertations, launched a number
of academic results regarding peaceful development and regional security
and put forward some constructive suggestions on how to strengthen
exchanges and cooperation of security and defense think tanks among
nations.
Zheng Shenxia, chairman of China Association for Military Sciences
and president of the Academy of Military Sciences of the PLA, and Liu
Yuan, political commissar of the Academy of Military Sciences of the PLA,
addressed the forum respectively themed on China's Peaceful
Development and Asia-Pacific Security and Missions and challenges
for Defense Think Tanks in a New Era. Zhang Qinsheng, assistant chief
of general staff of the PLA gave a lecture entitled Chinese PLA's
Military Diplomacy.

特约记者郭瑞宏、记者张锋报道：由中国军事科学学会主办的２００６年"亚太地区的和平发展与地区安全"国际论坛香山论坛，２３日至２４日在北京举行。来自美国、俄罗斯、法国、英国、日本、印度、巴基斯坦等１４个国家的２１个学术机构专家和部分驻华武官与中国知名学术机构的专家学者参加了论坛。
这次论坛结合当前国际和地区安全形势，就"中国的和平发展与和谐地区建设""亚太地区的和谐与安全之路""军队现代化与军事互信""安全和防务智库对地区发展和安全的作用"等问题展开交流和研讨。
论坛提交学术论文４０余篇，推出了一批关乎和平发展与地区安全的学术成果，对加强国际间安全与防务智库的交流与合作提出了建设性建议。
中国军事科学学会会长、军事科学院院长郑申侠和军事科学院政委刘源分别作了《中国的和平发展与亚太地区安全》、《新时代防务智库的挑战与使命》的主题报告。总参谋长助理章沁生作了《中国的军事外交》的演讲。 |
