The Military Firearms Shooting Contest of the Armed Forces of ASEAN,
China, Japan and South Korea kicked off yesterday in Beijing.
This shooting contest is the first military sports exchange event
held within the framework of ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea, thanks
to China for taking the initiative to raise the idea. The competition is a
landmark of the deepened and broadened development in the fields of
exchanges and cooperation in East Asia, which will no doubt contribute to
deepening the traditional friendship, promoting mutual understanding and
deepening mutual trust, and will play a positive role in safeguarding the
peace and stability in the Asia/Pacific region.
More than 60 athletes from 10 countries including China, Brunei,
Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam are participating in the two-day long fierce competition involving
service rifle and pistol. Indonesia, Japan and South Korea have sent
observers to the event.

此次"东盟与中日韩武装部队军用枪射击比赛",是由中国主动提出的在东盟与中日韩框架内举办的首次军事体育交流项目。比赛的举行标志着东亚交流与合作的深度与广度得到进一步发展,有利于深化传统友谊,增进相互了解,加深相互信任,为维护亚太地区的和平与稳定发挥积极作用。
中国、文莱、柬埔寨、老挝、马来西亚、缅甸、菲律宾、新加坡、泰国、越南等10国代表团的60余名运动员,将在军用步枪和手枪的比赛项目中,进行为期两天的角逐。印度尼西亚、日本和韩国派出了观察员。
